Terrorist attack on Chechen parliament leaves six dead.

In the morning, three Chechen separatists stormed the parliament building in Grozny, the capital of the restive Russian republic of Chechnya.

When the deputies arrived the three rebels shouted Islamist slogans and launched a bomb and gun attack.

One of the fighters appears to have set off a sucide bomb then the two others ran into the building killing two guards and a civillian worker.

The deputies took refuge on the third floor.

A gun fight with the Russian police force ensued. The three terrorist were killed. Seventeen people were injured, six policemen and eleven civillians.

Last year Moscow declared victory against Chechen separatists and there has bean a relative lull in the violence. However all of the north Caucasus is affected by an insurrection led by Islamist rebels. This incident is a reminder that the region is very instable.

The US and EU condemned this attack and pledged to work with Russia to defeat terrorism.

Une attaque terroriste contre le parlement tchétchène a fait six morts.

Dans la matinée, trois séparatistes tchétchènes ont pris d’assaut le parlement de Grozny dans la république russe de Tchétchénie.

Au moment où les députés arrivaient, les trois rebelles équipés de bombes et d’armes à feu ont déclanché une attaque en criant des slogans islamistes. L’un d’entre eux se serait fait exploser alors que les deux autres pénétraient dans le bâtiment tuant deux gardes et un fonctionnaire. Les députés se sont réfugiés au troisième étage.

Un affrontement armé avec les forces de police russes s’est ensuivi au cours duquel les terroristes ont été tués. Dix-sept personnes ont été blessées, six policiers et onze civils.

L’an dernier Moscou s’était déclaré victorieux des séparatistes tchétchènes et la région avait connu une accalmie dans la violence. Tout le Caucase du nord connaît une insurrection menée par des rebelles islamistes. Cet incident rappelle que la région est très instable.

L’Union Européenne et les Etats-Unis ont condamnés cette attaque, et se sont engagés à travailler avec la Russie pour défaire le terrorisme.
