Russia has a law against gay propaganda and the NGO Human Rights Watch (HRW) who defends human rights and protects the Universal Declaration of Humans Rights is struggling to defend Russia’s LGBT community especially children as the law bans access to information that could be important for them.
For instance, a psychologist cannot talk with LGBT children about their sexuality and their gender, which is vital for teenagers for becoming adults with a good mental health.
The 2013 law contributed to an intensification of stigma, harasement and violence against LGBT people.
The so-called “gay propaganda” law is a classic example of political homophobia. In 2017 the European court condemned Russia on the grounds that the law violates the rights to freedom of expression and freedom from discrimination guaranteed in the European Convention on Human Rights, and that the law was indeed harmful to children.

En Russie, il existe une loi contre la propagande gay et l’ONGI Human Rights Watch (HRW) qui défend les droits de l’homme et protège la Déclaration universelle des droits de l’homme s’efforce de protéger la communauté LGBT de Russie, en particulier les enfants car cette loi les met en danger.
Elle interdit de fait l’accès à l’information aux enfants gays, lesbiennes et bisexuels à tel point qu'un psychologue ne peut pas parler aux LGBT de leur sexualité et de leur sexe, ce qui est très important pour des adolescents qui doivent préserver leur équilibre mental pour devenir des adultes.
La loi de 2013 a contribué à l’intensification de la stigmatisation, du harcèlement et de la violence à l’égard des personnes LGBT en Russie. C’est un exemple classique d’homophobie politique.
La Cour Européenne a condamné la Russie en 2017 car elle a jugé que la loi violait les droits à la liberté d'expression et à l'absence de discrimination garantis par la Convention européenne des droits de l'homme et qu’elle était effectivement préjudiciable aux enfants.
