Extension of the Russian presidential mandate
Last Wednesday, the upper house of the Russian parliament approved amendments to the Constitution extending the presidential term from four to six years and the lower house term from four to five years.
According to a parliamentary official, the bill will apply to the next head of state.
Russian analysts underlined that the amendments were approved with an accelerated procedure.
The former president and current Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said “the proposal was not tailored for him” but he didn’t say that he didn’t contemplate running. Indeed, he is suspected to want to stage a presidential come-back in 2012.

Extension du mandat présidentiel russe
Mercredi dernier, la chambre haute du parlement russe a approuvé les amendements à la Constitution prévoyant d’étendre le mandat présidentiel de quatre à six ans et le mandat de la chambre basse de quatre ans à cinq ans.
D'après un responsable parlementaire, la réforme s'appliquera au prochain chef d'état. Les analystes russes ont souligné que la réforme a été adoptée par un processus d'adoption accélérée.
L'ancien président et actuel premier ministre Vladimir Poutine a déclaré que "la proposition n'avait pas été étudiée pour lui" mais il n'a pas dit qu'il ne se présenterait pas. En effet, on le soupçonne de vouloir revenir au pouvoir en 2012.
