Bankrupt farm slaughters chicks

Last week, Krasnaya Polyana, a bankrupt poultry farm in the Kursk region’s village of Zheleznogorsk, posted a morbid video on Youtube in a desperate attempt to attract the state’s attention and aid.

The video showed weeping farmers throwing newly hatched chicks into rusty barrels and let them die of suffocation or drown in freezing water, and older chickens dying abandoned and freezing on snowy fields.

The farm director Vladimir Butkeyev said the farm was heavily in debt and ran out of money for the poultry’s food, and he would have to lay off his 1700 workers if the government didn’t step in to help. On December 10, he had to start putting to death hundreds of thousands of chickens. “We don’t have any other options left.” he said.

This tragic local event is also an attempt to call Prime Minister Putin and President Medvedev’s attention to the fact that the farm represents 55% of Kursk’s poultry production and one-third of the local budget, and that its closure would have serious consequences on the region’s economy.

La faillite noie l’entreprise et ses poussins

La semaine dernière, à Zheleznogorsk, un village de la région de Koursk, Krasnaya Polyana, un élevage de poulets en faillite a mis en ligne sur Youtube une vidéo morbide dans le but d’attirer l’attention et l’aide du gouvernement.

On peut voir dans cette vidéo des fermières en larmes qui jettent des poussins tout juste nés dans des fûts rouillés et les laissent mourir étouffés ou noyés dans de l’eau gelée, ou encore des poulets plus âgés abandonnés dans des champs enneigés, condamnés à mourir de froid.

Le directeur de la ferme, Vladimir Butkeyev, a dit que la ferme était fortement endettée, qu’il lui était impossible d’acheter la nourriture pour l’élevage et que sans l’intervention du gouvernement, il aurait à licencier ses 1700 employés. Le 10 décembre, il avait dû commencer à mettre à mort des milliers de poulets. «Nous n’avons plus d’autre option» a-t-il dit.

Ce tragique évènement est aussi une tentative d’attirer l’attention du Premier Ministre Poutine et du Président Medvedev sur le fait que la fermeture de l’entreprise, qui représente 55% de la production de volaille de la région et un tiers du budget local, aurait de graves conséquences sur l’économie de Koursk
