The WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) could ban Russian athletes from more international competitions and added new restrictions on them. This decision could be taken after discovering that the Russian official anti-doping agency had deleted test results from their databases.
The report was released after four years of investigation and shows Russia did not comply with anti-doping rules. The conclusion is that they manipulated a database of test results of Russian athletes to provide false evidence of no cheating.
The sanctions would result in Russian athletes being banned not only from Tokyo Olympics games, but from a series of sports competitions. This would weigh in on Russian sports after the Olympic Games and Russia would be barred for four years from all international competitions in countries that have signed the WADA chart. The governing bodies who have ratified the WADA chart include FIFA, the organizer of the 2022 World Cup of football.
The Russian government would also be barred from sitting in at sporting events and for the country hosting for four years.
It is not yet known how many Russian athletes would be barred if the report is confirmed. But WADA said it is informed of the data missing from the database.
