Putin forever

On Tuesday, Putin told the Constitutional Council that he would remain in power beyond 2024.

Putin is 67 years old; he was a Soviet KGB officer and he has been in power for 20 years and he could remain in place were the parliament to accept two new terms of six years.

But Putin engages in double dealing, he said he wants free and competitive elections and does not want to stay in power.

Yet, he knows that the opposition is stronger and that his popularity is declining due to the economy, the oil price war and widespread corruption. But in many Russians’ hearts, he remains the leader who resists the West.

But Putin cannot leave the power of which he has many enemies. And if we look at the fate of the autocrats when they stopped, we can understand why Putin does not want to leave.
